Well known digital marketing education portal Heavy Chef is hosting its last “Heavy Chef Session” of 2012 on the 13th December, entitled The State Of E-Commerce featuring speakers from leading e-commerce portals Yuppiechef, Zando and Kalahari.

The Heavy Chef is an initiative by leading South African digital marketing agency World Wide Creative, and offers training courses to corporates, regular interviews with industry experts and monthly events featuring some of the most respected personalities in the online marketing industry.

Wendy Tayler, Editor of the Heavychef.com website, says: “After another successful year of hosting the best digital speakers in South Africa, we’re excited to announce our penultimate event of 2012. We are ending off the year with a topic that has become increasingly relevant in South Africa this year: e-commerce.”

This December the event hosts speakers from three of the most talked about e-commerce sites in our country.

Andrew Smith, co-founder of Yuppiechef, an online kitchen tools store, will reveal Yuppiechef’s journey from a small garage project to a leading household supplier.

Head of Online Marketing at Zando, Kate Jansen, will be discussing the landscape of South African E-commerce, as well as its international investment and the prospects that it contains. Previously Jansen worked at the daily deals site, Groupon SA.

Kalahari’s online marketing manager, Jenna Bloch, will delve into the trends in E-commerce and also demystifying some myths that are common in the online shopping space.

World Wide Creative CEO, and founder of the Heavy Chef project, Fred Roed stated this week: “We are very excited about the e-commerce session. The event is being held at Deloitte’s tech-friendly Cape Town office, and we will be providing some of the Cape’s finest wine, courtesy of our long term event partner Backsberg. It’s a great way for us to end the year.”

Tayler adds: “What’s more, we will be giving a new Lumia 900 on the evening, courtesy of Nokia South Africa, for ‘best tweet’ on the night. You will notice the excitement around the talks heighten as tweets invariably flood in immediately after the event starts.”

The Heavy Chef events are held monthly, alternating between Cape Town and Johannesburg, and are attended by the premier members of the marketing community in South Africa. Events are publicised on both World Wide Creative’s and Heavy Chef’s profiles on Facebook, as well as the Heavy Chef Twitter profile. Will transcripts, video clips etc. be available for those of us who are not in Cape Town? I am very interested in hearing how service businesses in South Africa can take advantage of e-commerce.
