For the second year running Enviropaedia in association with SABC 3 hosted the Eco-Logic Awards on the 27th September 2012, in celebration of those individual companies and organisations that not only think green, but do and live green. This year’s entries were of a high caliber and it showed that people were taking the green issues to heart.

Initiated by David Parry-Davies, the editor of The Enviropaedia, South Africa’s leading reference to the green revolution believes that there needs to be a change of mindset and a move away from the doom and gloom surrounding greening. This belief saw the very first launch of the Eco-Logic Awards in November 2011.
With the introduction of the Awards the organisers wanted to create a space that would allow consumers to participate in the conservation of their planet through the companies that they interacted with on a financial level. In addition to this, they wanted to see people coming together to share, build a network and bridge of understanding which in turn would empower the consumer. The organisers further wanted to motivate, facilitate wide scale social; environmental; economic and political sustainability.
On this special night organisations and associations such as Food & Trees for Africa, Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, MTN, RISO, Collect-a-Can and more were named and applauded for their hard work and commitment to saving the planet. Among these bigwigs of living green, Skylar Brand’s name could be found on the list of finalists in the Eco-Innovation category for those offering a new product or service that is financially viable and sustainable, and serves the needs of humans whilst being equally beneficial to the Earth and its eco-systems. The company’s innovation process involves converting waste from wine making into viable products, such as grape seed oil, DuraLog (firelog) and scrub grape seed used in exfoliating products.
Jonathan Jacobs, the CEO at Skylar said that “Being a first time entrant and to have your name put on the finalist list is a very proud moment”. He continued that “the company is very proud and encouraged by this achievement to continue keeping it green and generate more green innovations”. Receiving an award of this nature reaffirms the path that the Skylar Brand’s has chosen is in fact the better one, and signals that there is more to come from this manufacturing company. Keep an eye on this one.
