In an economy such as what the market is currently experiencing, it is encouraging to see that business is still flowing and international companies are still committed to the South African market. During a two-day Showcase, Global Payment Technologies (GPT), a Bidvest company and market leader in cash processing solutions introduced various new payment technologies to South African customers. Exhibitors including; Talaris, Sallen, Scan Coin, Sumetzberger, JVL, Suzo Happ, AccuCoin, C-SAM, Hess and Glory, all exhibited technologies to assist in managing and securing cash.
Exhibitors attended from across the globe to showcase their product lines to banking, retail and gaming customers in South Africa. Product ranges included; equipment such as precision coin and token counting instruments, multi-currency detectors, cash deposit and recycling systems, the Sumetzberger system, counting machines, banknote value counters and validators, bank note deposit machines and a revolutionary banknote processor with auto strapping technology.
Customers from across South Africa streamed in at The Venue, Melrose Arch to view these new ground breaking technologies. One of these, the fully functioning lobby ATM, Monimax 7600, drew a lot of attention. The Monimax 7600 is a neat and aesthetically pleasing ATM machine for use in hotel or business park lobbies, promising minimum maintenance and maximum uptime with energy saving features that can be used for withdrawal of bills, funds transfer and mobile top-up. The system offers advanced security measures, preventing any attempted security breaches from occurring.
Today’s market focus is optimisation. The cash crunch forces companies to look at ways of conducting business in a more cost effective, and more efficient, manner. In line with this, one of the products exhibited at the Showcase was the UWH-1000EU, which improves the efficiency and productivity of cash management through sorting and strapping cash within the cash center or financial institution. Cash handling is thus much more proficient, while reliable counterfeit detection adds a further security measure. Up to 1000 mixed notes can be fed into the machine, which will count the notes and sort them into their different denominations. The system also effectively recycles notes, re-strapping them for distribution to ATMs or branches.
Another machine which generated much interest at the Showcase was the DE-100 Banknote Deposit Machine. Notes can be deposited into the machine and are then counted, approved and committed to a storage bag. Mutilated notes or other non-cash items such as gift vouchers can be manually entered and added to the total. The machine has a capacity to store up to 500 banknotes safely in a bag after counting. Counterfeit notes are identified and will not be added to the total amount deposited.
The Talaris cash management systems focus on the optimisation of cash handling. Its Cash Star 511 1 self-service payment terminal allows customers to pay utility bills, taxes, invoices and even to top-up mobile phone credit. It offers cashless operations such as balance information along with complete cash payment transactions.
The ambiance exuded at the exhibition was somewhat surreal, having a feeling of being almost beyond 2020 with new technologies, ways to simplify consumers lives and optimise cash handling everywhere, while the machines on display had a high-tech, space-age look and feel. This was especially evident in the corner where the ECI-10, HD-80 Multi-Game Video Slot Terminal was exhibited. This terminal, from the entertainment range of JVL, includes the JVL Music – a jukebox that streams upwards of 4 million songs – and JVL Mobi – the proliferation of smart phones and portable mp3 players. The machine now comes with a high performance industrial game board with a dedicated 3D hardware engine, a super bright 22” 16:9 HD wide screen, a touch screen LCD monitor, a 4-speaker high fidelity tri-band sound system with a built in subwoofer, high speed secure digital storage media, a cabinet that supports a ticket-in/ticket-out payment system and SAS v6.02 protocol. The LED illuminated pushbuttons and touch-screen interface, low power consumption and low heat dissipation is what will give the casino of tomorrow its new look to remember.
Money is what makes the world go round. Whether it is gambled with, invested, shopped with or simply banked for later use, South Africans are probably encountering or making use of one of the technologies exhibited at this Showcase. Walking through the exhibition provides a sense of security, knowing that there are such technologies available to safely count, validate, secure and recycle our cash.
