Watch Springbok captain Jean de Villiers come alive on the cover of the July issue of Sports Illustrated, on sale on Monday 18 June.
Sports Illustrated is one of the first magazines in South Africa to use the Aurasma app to create a virtual cover.
In the July issue of SI, Jean de Villiers talks to the reader, elaborates on the Super Rugby story in which he features, and then segues into the cover pose.
“Jean de Villiers is the man of the moment right now,” says SI editor Ami Kapilevich. “He’s captaining the Boks against England, but in two weeks’ time will return to lead the South African charge on the Super Rugby playoffs. It’s great to see how technology adds another level to readers’ interaction with one of our iconic sports stars.”
The Aurasma app can be downloaded for free on iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones.
“The great thing about Aurasma is that it’s a lot simpler for the user to access the content than other AR apps. There are no extra steps like subscribing or signing in. It’s as simple as opening the app and pointing your phone at the cover,” says Renato Balona, head of new media at Media24’s Lifestyle magazines.
Sports Illustrated is South Africa’s leading sports magazine with its sought-after covers, exclusive interviews with SA’s biggest sports stars, and a Facebook community of over 50 000 fans.
