The latest group buying company to hit our shores, CityMob, launched today with the largest social media following in SA and a distinct focus on quality, community and strategic partnerships.

South Africa today saw the official launch of a group buying site with the largest social media-based community in the country. With over 120,000 Facebook fans across four city-specific pages and one national page, CityMob – www.CityMob.co.za – offers a fresh, community-centric and socially savvy take on the hot consumer trend of group buying*.

“We want to refresh the group buying category with a distinct focus on quality, community and strategic partnerships,” said Luke Jedeikin, sales and marketing director at CityMob. “Group buying is primarily a social activity and in building consumer and retailer loyalty, we believe in mutual respect and consistently sharing local insights.”

Respect and quality
The type of offers to be made available to CityMob members will include a wide range of unique experiences, form local adventures and concerts to educational courses and cultural events. Each one of them has been respectfully negotiated with local vendors, service providers or event organisers looking to differentiate themselves in the marketplace and with terms that are beneficial to CityMob members, as well as the participating organisations.

“Whether a resident or a tourist, it is much easier to enjoy a city when great advice is provided,” added Jedeikin. “From the start, our fans and local vendors will appreciate that we do things differently, and from our community of city enthusiasts, CityMob is able to source specials on some of the best things to do in and around the city.”

Strategic partnerships
“CityMob believes that more professionalism and respect are required in the group buying category, particularly when it comes to negotiating with vendors,” added Jedeikin. “Creating value begins with great relationships, and that includes the companies and brands that see the opportunity to participate in conversations amongst communities of city enthusiasts.”

‘Mobsters’ across SA
Over the past couple of years, CityMob has curated several city-specific pages on Facebook based on the vision to create free and open forums for people to share experiences, tips and insights on what is happening in their city. With the launch of CityMob.co.za, several dedicated communities of city ‘mobsters’ will also be developed around the country in the coming months; starting with Mother City, and followed by other cities throughout year, including Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth.
