Creating a Profitable Website for your Company: Step One: Define Your Objectives

This seems obvious, right? Like so many other areas in business, the fundamental basics are often forgotten, and this is no exception.

To prove the point, take a brief browse through some of your competitors’ websites. Ask yourself while browsing them – what are they trying to achieve? I’ll bet that there are more than a few websites in your industry that are meaningless and a complete waste of cyberspace.

We’ve found that the best way to start is to list your overall business objectives. An example would be “Generate R2 million rand in profit by year-end”. Once you’ve clarified business or organization objectives, you can funnel downwards to your marketing and brand objectives (e.g. “Become the market leader in Gauteng in printer repairs” and “Have a 2 in 5 customer brand recall for our company name”); then finally your digital objectives. These would be goals like “Create an email newsletter database of 20,000 recipients” and “Increase traffic to 10,000 unique visitors per month to my website”.
