Today we chat to Claudia Katz, CEO of Capsicum Culinary Studio, about what it takes to be a CEO and how the industry is effecting entrepreneurial growth.

Despite the recent recession, there seems to be a plethora of new education facilities, colleges, schools and online training businesses – are we experiencing an ‘education boom’?

Education Institutions that are legislatively compliant and appropriate in terms of their offerings will be an Education asset for the South African market and so will “survive” the difficult financial times and continue to educate and train in the future years. Culinary Studio is an educational institution that is both legislatively and market appropriate and so will continue to be the largest national provider of Chef Education in South Africa for many years to come.

Claudia, what is the ’secret’ to being a successful CEO?

The secret to being a successful CEO is having an entrepreneurial and effective management team. At Capsicum that is what we have that is why I know the team and the company will be very successful.

What attracted you to Capsicum, the biggest cooking school in Africa?

I was attracted to the Vision, goals and values of Capsicum as well as its business potential both in South    Africa and globally.

Do you feel that the industry (both in the hospitality training, as well as education in general) is becoming cluttered, or do you feel there is still space for entrepreneurs to take advantage?

I believe that if you have an excellent education product, which is underpinned by a sound business model, you can do very well. Capsicum has both and hence their track record is one of success and excellence.

Thank you, Claudia for taking the time to tell us more about Capsicum!
