When speaking in public, or being interviewed, be wary of “um-ing and aah-ing” when trying to think of your next point or an answer to a question.  This not only makes you look unprofessional, but can also result in you appearing nervous, unprepared and untrustworthy. It can also make you appear insecure.

When you reach a point in what you are saying, and can’t quite remember where your train of thought was going, rather pause and take a few seconds to collect your thoughts before continuing.  The pause is a powerful tool, as it gives your audience a chance to digest what you’ve just said, and it also makes you seem more in control of your own vocal flow…
