We’re interviewing leading business minds and entrepreneurs to find out about their favourite business book they’ve ever read. This week we asked CEO and Founder of Afrigator.com, Justin Hartman, to tell us a bit about his all time favourite business book. Here’s what he had to say:
1. What is the best business book you’ve ever read?
2. Have you read any of his stuff before?
Prior to reading Outliers I hadn’t read any of Gladwell’s books however since this I’ve basically read them all. Some of his classics are “The tipping point” and “Blink” and most recently I read “What the dog saw“.
3. What’s it about?
Outliers is about how our very definition of success is flawed. He looks at the factors that contribute to high levels of success. He talks about how hard work is critical to success and that successful people were often lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Gladwell also talks about the 10,000 hours rule and how to truly be successful you need at least 10,000 hours in your trade and every successful person who has ever been can be measured by this rule
For me there was some amazing insight and while none of these theories are new Gladwell has a magical way of making them all come to the fore with real-world examples which are both profound and uncanny.
4. What other books can you recommend?
Any Gladwell book is a treasure however I also loved “Getting Real: The Book by 37signals“. 37signals are an amazing (and highly successful) Internet company and anyone involved in an Internet company should really read this book. 37signals have really shown how being unconventional can really help drive success.
Thanks a mil Justin for sharing with us. Outliers is clearly a book everyone loves to read!
