With only 10 days left in 2009 we look at the last of the 90 day challenge projects: Sharper Goals. Try this one after a glass of eggnog: “Planning and preparation prevents permanent problems and promotes perfect profits”.
Setting and achieving goals is the one topic that is written and spoken about the most in coaching circles. And with good reason; it is the easiest way to leverage your future. A simple list of daily tasks written out before you do anything in the morning will ensure a productive day. So lets help you get some good goals for 2010 and make the most of what promises to be an awesome year. Stop, make time for this exercise, it should not take more than an hour of your day.
- Make a list of all the activities that you need to carry over from 2009 to 2010. Just mind dump these, we will sort them out later.
- Make a list of all the activities that you meant well to do in 2009 but need to be dropped and not carried over to 2010. This is a huge relief list, much like a tax exemption, a get out of jail free card. Use it well. Now toss the list in the bin.
- Go back to your Business or Personal Vision statement and reread it a few times. If you do not have one, then this may be a good time to develop it.
- Write out at least seven different strategy focus areas that will be required to assist in getting closer to our vision statement. This could include: Marketing, Sales, Staff development, Personal Issues, Relationship, Logistics, etc.
- Sort all the left over activities from 2009 by strategy heading and add them to this new list.
- Add any new activities that will be required to achieve the desired result under each strategy heading.
- Turn them into goals by adding a Due Date, Resource Person and an Accountability Person to each activity.
- Choose up to three top goals to be your WIG for 2010. That is your Wildly Important Goal. These get 80% of your efforts until they are done.
- Paste this list up and communicate it to all who need to know or who care.
- Measure all activity and celebrate progress.
This concludes the series of the 90 day challenge. I am assured that those of you who have followed the series have seen huge results in your business and are ready to stare 2010 square in the face with confidence and assurance. Welcome to your future.
