Do you only use Twitter at www.twitter.com? Here are 5 programs that can make it better. These 5 Twitter clients are based on Twitter’s analytics service Twitstat. Naturally, most users post from the Twitter website itself.
1. Web
Twitter has boomed to become the most popular micro-blogging service to share your thoughts and ideas with thousands of people. Twitter is a free social networking service and is ranked as one of the 50 most popular websites worldwide by Alexa’s web traffic analysis. According to Twitstat the web is still the number one Twitter client. That means updating your status online via Twitter.com is still the most popular way people use Twitter.
2. TweetDeck
This is a desktop application which is the most popular Twitter client at the moment. It allows you to monitor multiple social-networking services at the same time in an organized column format. You can customize these columns by deleting the one’s you don’t want and bringing them back if you choose. With TweetDeck you can manage more than one Twitter account from one interface, isolate individuals you follow and preview shortened URLs. Another nice thing about TweetDeck is that you can join a conversation by tweeting, sharing photos, videos or links directly from TweetDeck.
3. Tweetie
Tweetie is a Twitter client for your Mac, but there is also Tweetie 2 which is for your IPhone. Tweetie also supports multiple Twitter accounts and you can view each account individually and access each account’s direct messages and replies separately. According to a review by Christina Warren, Tweetie’s multi-account handling is “the best of any Twitter client, desktop or mobile.” Another nice feature of Tweetie is that you can go back much further in your timeline than the other Twitter clients allow. This is great if you are following a lot a people, and want to go back to catch up on stuff you might have missed. The Tweetie web browser is easy to use and you can e-mail or re-tweet a link directly from it.
4. Twitterfeed
Twitterfeed is a service that will automatically tweet any post that you publish on your blog. It’s a way to automatically plug RSS feeds into your Twitter stream. All you need to do is add a feed to your account and name it. Twitterfeed can check for new feed postings every 30 minutes. You can customize your URL shortening options which will make tweets look less spammy and automated. A nice feature of Twitterfeed is that you can use it to include Facebook notifications into your Twitter account.
5. Seesmic
Seesmic is a desktop client which can manage your lifestream from Facebook & multiple Twitter accounts. Seesmic has a diverse platform base that includes the web, your PC or Mac and your IPhone (coming soon). With Seesmic you can specify which URL shortening and image hosting services you want to use, what kind of notifications you want to receive and how you want all your information to be displayed. Videos and images can also be shared directly from Seesmic. Seesmic is quite ideal for uploading videos.
Now that you’ve seen the top 5 Twitter clients according to Twitstat, I would like to know from you what’s you favourite Twitter client?

A very good post Yolandi.
Myself, I tend to use TwitterGadget on my iGoogle page – very simple, very easy and most importantly not too cluttered; which is my biggest gripe with TweetDeck.
