Five South African entrepreneurs tell us their dream cars

As a car enthusiast I have already picked out my dream car and colour for when I’ve made my millions. So I wondered what SA’s business folk were thinking about for their futures. So I asked the question: “When you’ve made your millions, and you’re going to celebrate with the purchase of your dream car, what car would you buy? Here’s what they said:

James Thorburn currently manages a variety of property restoration and refurbishment projects at Cape Reality International. “Ooooh tough one! I would have to say as my every day car I would buy the Porsche GT2, but would like a black Lamborghini in the garage for Sundays. Oh and of course family trips would be done in the Porsche Cayenne Sport”.

Justin Stanford is a founder, board member, CEO and advisor for several start-up companies such as Silicon Cape and 4Di Capital. Justin is also a passionate car enthusiast. “There’s never been one particular individual car for me that I want(ed) to attain, there’s more a list if you like, and I’ve been adding and subtracting a fair few to the collection since I first was able to and am not stopping now..! But I think the real watershed moment for me in my entrepreneurial history was the realisation of my first really big car dream when I bought my first Aston Martin V8 Vantage 4.3, at age 23 in 2006”.

Vinny Lingham is the CEO of San Francisco based start-up, Yola.com. He only had one word to say “Ferrari”. He added this link to the Ferrari California website where you can customize your Ferrari digitally.

Louis Janse van Rensburg is the Joburg boss at World Wide Creative, web strategist, researcher, entrepreneur & Heavy Chef. Louis likes things old school: “No matter how much money I have, I’d still love to get me-self a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon”.

Mike Stopforth is an entrepreneur, writer and speaker who helps companies extract value from Web 2.0 trends and technologies to create smarter, more profitable businesses. He heads up Cerebra, South Africa’s leading social media company. For Mike it’s simple. “Instead of a R2.5 million supercar I’d buy 4 fun cars that would no doubt fulfil all my desires. They are: Merc C63 AMG, Jeep Wrangler Sport, Mini Cooper S JCW, AC Cobra V8”.
Well, it sure sounds like these boys have thought about it for a while. But who hasn’t! My dream car is a bit outrageously far-fetched – I’d love to own a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with a snow white and chocolate brown colour combination. That’s right, all I want is 1001 horsepower, 16 cylinders and four wheel drive – Is that so much to ask? Wow, I want to start jumping up and down just talking about it!
Let’s look at dreams that are coming true today: Here is a photo of a Mercedes Benz owned by an Abu Dhabi oil billionaire. This sleek ride features the newly developed V10 quad turbo with 1,600 horsepower. You’re looking at 0-100km/h in less than 2 seconds. Oh yes, and probably the most important part – It’s White Gold!
Yolandi Janse van Rensburg writes about social media, marketing, life and, of course, cars. We say “of course” because Yolandi is nuts about anything on 4 wheels. Besides moonlighting as the Heavy Chef girl at World Wide Creative, Yolandi runs Autofemme, a blog about cars, as a business on the side. View more articles by Yolandi.

Hey! Cerebra is a global social and mobile media company and UCT has referred to them as a leading Social-Media consultancy. Hope that helps

Yolandi, a global ……… company. Really? Where else do they have offices or which international campaigns do they run? Terms such as leading are so skewed and really not realistic when compared to other companies and their work. Perhaps one of the first would be a better description, but even then there are companies that provide social media services and have been around for over ten years, who incidentally service a far larger client base. As for UCT – well, their affiliation with the head of nomadic marketing and close ties with the 27 Dinner movement (Duarte) would explain that accolade. There’s definitely a “you’ll scratch my back if I scratch yours” in this space.
Back to the blog post, I’m surprised no BMW’s made the cut!

Hey Johan. That’s how Cerebra describes themselves on their website as well as mediaupdate.co.za and leader.co.za. I like to check what other sites say about a company or person. I don’t always know people’s affiliations with each other so I guess you’re right about UCT.
Anyway, I was surprised at how quick the guys answered the question in the post. There was definitely no need for any time to think about it
