Yep. You know it. This is the movie we’ve been waiting for. More hype than Blair Witch, and better than I Am Legend, this is where another South African film maker comes of age. Neill Blomkamp teams up with Kiwi Producer and all-round good bloke, Peter Jackson, to create the kick-ass alien sci-fi thriller of the year.
And it’s set in Johannesburg, no less. Not Los Angeles. Or New York.
It’s a major flipping event for South Africans. Believe it, because now, all of a sudden, your average Bible-wielding American citizen will actually know where we are – and it’s not ‘just south of Connecticut’. We have real shops. And real transport. (…and real aliens, it would seem).
We at Ideate are nodding our heads at the slick marketing campaign, the smooth documentary-style viral build up, and the subtle way it throws in under-the-radar references to our political past for the more cerebral viewer.
We hope this movie will rock the box office, hard. See it. Then see it again. Then drag your gramma to see it, in case she hasn’t seen it already.
Love your work, Neill. We hereby affirm your status in the South African Hall of Fame along with Charlize, John Smit, Nelson Mandela and Julius Malema.
