Yes, I paint. It’s not something I put on my business card though. For some, this may be a 21st Century ploy to convey some kind of bohemian credibility. Actually, I’ve been painting since I was a tyke, back when I found out how fun it was to pour paint on carpets (my first experiment with texture). I’ve had 2 serious exhibitions, with my paintings now scattered across the globe. So, here’s the deal. My art-crazy young family has recently moved to Hout Bay in Cape Town, and we DON’T have the space to keep all our paintings. There are 2 paintings in particular that I was hoping to put on our freshly minted white walls, and they’ve been quietly waiting placement at the world famous Rafikis restaurant in Tamboerskloof until now (thanks Mickey!). SO, now, seeing the lack of wall-estate at our house, I have made the heart-breaking decision to flog them here on Ideate at a one time only offer of R3500 for both of them (or R1800 for one).
The paintings are MASSIVE. The one is 2.5m by 1.5m, the other almost 3m by 1.2m. They were valued some years ago at R7000 each, so this is a good deal, believe me.
The first is called “The More Things Change, The More Things Stay The Same” (excuse the blurry image). It was painted in reaction to a documentary I saw back in 2000 that reported on the heightened levels of anxiety people felt in this new economy, filled with tech-savvy youngsters and the pace of change escalating every day. The painting depicts a young couple embracing, with a grandfather holding their new-born baby; a troubador is playing the song of ages, with the TV blaring out its breathless, distracting noise.

The second is called “The Musicians” which is a simple depiction of a band playing either “Free Falling” or “Welcome to the Jungle”, depending what kind of mood you’re in.

What’s more, if you want to buy either one, or both, of these bad boys, I will give you a personally signed certificate of authenticity, with a signed message from the ‘artiste’… so-to-speak.
And lastly *whiping away tear* this offer is a quick-fire sale. If you want to see the work, go to Rafikis, have a Mojito, stare whistfully at my work and then fire off an email in my direction.
