Floods in Camps Bay, Cape Town

This has been quite a winter for Capetonians. This weekend saw a full frontal climate assault, with the net result shown below (pics via my mate Andrew, who’s on the ball today).

I was more than a little alarmed this morning on the way to work (I live in Hout Bay and drive through to work on the coastal road past Llandudno) when I noticed massive big boulders strewn across the tarmac on the way to Camps Bay. Not very comforting when you consider that Chappies was closed after someone was squished by a boulder tumbling down from the mountain. Eish. Eish. Eish.
…and then there’s this little number below – taken from my car a few weeks ago in Vredehoek.

Can’t be good for one’s car getting stuck under that.
Probably the only ones getting any joy out all this are treefellers and companies like DryForce.
Africa is certainly not for sissies.

Hi Fred
I am currently writing a book – the Green Building Guidelines for the City of Cape Town and the first part concerns climate change.
These photographs are awesome and I would like permission to use them . Were they taken by Andrew Schofield by any chance??
Regards
Beth

Hi Beth, not actually sure who took them – they were sent to me by another Andrew, but will try and find out the photographer.
Otherwise, Seth over at http://www.2oceansvibe.com seems to have a handle on up-to-the-minute news flashes on anything Camps Bay related. Check out his blog for some more pics on yesterdays’ weather carnage.

I saw the boulder strewn coastal road from Hout Bay too – wondered how my Corsa Lite would fare against even a head-sized rock tumbling down the slope…

Hey Candice, I know what you mean. I’m getting freaked out now every time I drive that route – especially noticing that some of the rocks have made it to the other side of the road – not a great scenario…
