SATTD of the Week: Learn to Surf

When you’re running a small business things can get awful stressful awful quickly. I recently read an article somewhere (I think it was in a dentist’s office) with an interview with some odd-looking health nut called Helgo Schomer. He’s a behavioural specialist and, despite looking a little crazy, seems like a switched on dude. He made the point that, for the first time in history, we’re living in a culture where it is perfectly okay to do no physical exercise the whole day. We get up, brush our teeth, get in our cars, sit in traffic for 1hr, sit at our desks for 8 hrs, sit in traffic for 1hr, eat supper, slump in front of the tv and then go to bed.
Sound familiar?
Well, no longer, lard-boy – the South African Thing To Do of the Week is to book your first surf lesson – right now. (Click here to get started) It’s a pretty crazy thing to get people into, but well rewarding. Trust me. We did it for my company team-building at the end of last year, and now, at any given moment, you can come to World Wide Creative and you’ll see a row of surf boards resting comfortably next to our servers.
In case that doesn’t inspire you, here’s a video of our local boy, Jordy Smith, pulling off what GrindTV is calling “the most high-performance manoeuver ever executed on a wave. It’s called a “rodeo flip.”
Sick. We’ll compare notes this time next year when you’re pulling this number off at Dungeons. Go for it.
To get started, contact the good people at Learn2Surf (their website is here and has surf schools around the nation).
