I got this in the mail today: an invitation to the 1st Facelook & Foodcook event tomorrow evening. I won’t be attending (I’ve got the December Heavy Chef Session tomorrow), but after chatting to Joerg, it sounds very promising.
The first Facelook & Foodcook initiative to take place at Doppio Zero Mandela Rhodes Place on 10 December 2008 is proud to be associated with social worker, child activist and rapper Ryan “Brown” Dalton (right).
28 year old Brown, hailing from Cookeville, in the US state Tennessee has dedicated his life to helping the ‘underdogs’ of society by creating his own projects based on real needs, which he identifies while working on ground zero. Brown ends his 16 days on the streets of Cape Town on the 10 December 2008 and will address these issues with Facelook & Foodcook members hoping to bring awareness and long term change to the lives of vulnerable and “at risk” youth in Cape Town. (Visit his blog 365daysofactivism.blogspot.com.)
Along with his music, writing and ground work, Brown also had a bi-weekly radio show (Sidewalk Talk with Brown) on CCFM 107.5 for over a year, in which he spoke about burning issues that impact the youth on the streets and in the communities. Brown hopes to inspire and empower other individuals, that translate into masses, to choose to make a difference where they can, knowing that is how social change will take place.
Joerg Nawrocki, organiser of the Facelook & Foodcook initiative, created to promote real interaction with others, is supporting Ryan’s initiative whole heartily. The intentions of Facelook and Foodcook evenings are to unite people in real life, and talk about social engagements. Communitalk: Come, unite and talk. “I feel it’s time to connect faces.”
Doppio Zero owner Danny Diliberto’s passion extends far beyond the walls of his restaurant, “Since a while I had the idea to establish Doppio Zero as the company with a purpose. With the support of Joerg Nawrocki and the creation of Facelook & Foodcook evenings promoting a social networking community and showcasing charity efforts especially those that wouldn’t normally get this sort of platform or exposure I’m certain ‘The Facelook & Foodcook’ initiative will do just that.”
