I’ve written a couple of times about Gerhard Pieterse on Ideate. Gerhard’s the guy who’s been in the news lately for his Jail4Bail initiative. The idea is to raise a million rand for autism in SA. Gerhard’s been locked up for 65 days now, and still needs another R500k to reach his objective.
Over the past few weeks, the Jail4Bail campaign has been hotting up, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Mango OMC, Rafiq, Mike, Nic, Mandy and many others who’ve written about the cause. Jail4Bail has been popping up everywhere on the social media sphere, with multiple discussions appearing on Twitter, Facebook and Muti.
There’s even been folk complaining that the campaign is ’social media spam’. This is great news – it means that people who previously never spoke about anything relating to autism are now saying something… even if it’s negative. In a country where AIDS, poverty and crime rule the news, getting a sidelined cause like autism in the public eye is very, very hard, and Gerhard has achieved this, despite annoying a few people along the way.
So, now – Gerhard faces a problem. He still needs the R500k to make bail, and the deadline is the 29th August. Pledges are flying in from R100 to R1500, which is great – BUT, realistically, the only way Gerhard is going to hit the R1m is if SA business gets involved.
Here’s what you have to do…You can either:
1. go to the Autism Western Cape website and make a transaction online.
2. EFT money to the AWC bank account.
AUTISM WESTERN CAPE
First National Bank
Adderley Street, 201409
Acc. 620 602 87 416
Swift Code: FIRNZAJJXXX (International)
3. Go to Canal Walk and give Gerhard the money directly (there are people there to help)
