I saw this headline today on my Mail & Guardian feed: “More people returning to SA than leaving

Worth a click, I read the article and was thoroughly moved. Lately, it feels like I’ve been putting my ‘Why you should choose to stay in South Africa‘ argument* to more and more people – but it seems as if the opportunities provided by this great frontier are starting to push their own case, naturally.

Read the article here.

Welcome back Nicky Prins, Mark Kirkness, Gregg Anderson: It is an honour and a privilege to see you again.

Louise Gardiner: you’re right, South Africa holds some very threatening and very real challenges – it would be stupid to deny the realities we face – but your friends are painting one part of a bigger picture. There are some great reasons why SA is a great destination, and a great place to return to.

*This argument is balanced by my ‘Keep an international outlook‘ dissertation.

    This is fascinating.

I think there are many many opportunities in South Africa, it is an incredibly beautiful country, and we have a lot to be thankful for.

But I also think it depends on what you want, and what you’re willing to put up with.

I know many well qualified people who can barely make a living in South Africa, and the work conditions and attitude of employers are not in favor of them. I think many of these people really are better off in the UK or Aus, or such countries.

Still, this is one of the first positive reports I’ve read about SA. Well done. :)
