Jake White is “no longer available”

Today, with a bit of fanfare, Jake White and Google launched a “channel” on YouTube at www.youtube.com/jakewhitetv.

It looks like the page will house various videos of Jake talking at events and interviews with him, but at the moment the content looks a bit thin. There’s only so many times he can tell the story of giving the dejected team a pep-talk in Paris about how they would be lifting the trophy 4 years later. Nevertheless, it’s a decent example of attempting to build on your celebrity status by embracing online media.

Except for one big problem – YouTube is pretty much broken for myself and just about every other South African I talk to. Here is a screenshot of the Jake White page that I got:

“We’re sorry, this video is no longer available” – the plague of YouTube. Searching for that phrase returns over 100,000 results (try it here), mostly by people around the world wondering what the heck is wrong with YouTube. The videos are definitely still available, but there is a gremlin the system somewhere. Hitting refresh multiple times sometimes solves the problem, but often not.

It’s a great opportunity for Zoopy and MyVideo to win over the South African market, but it’s a pity they couldn’t get Jake on board. Or perhaps they knew better?
