1. Mistaking desire for compulsion.
2. Overoptimism concerning cash flow.
3. Reinforcing failure.
4. Thinking small and acting big.
5. Skimping on talent.

Read this in a book review by a bad guy made good, Felix Dennis, who created Maxim Magazine. If anyone’s interested, his book is now available.

Fred, May I just add one more to the list that I get to see all the time. People think that they have to do it all themselves. This creates a work ethic of long and frustrating hours trying to get everything done.

The secret to this is teamwork and networking, something we teach all our clients as they battle the world of Entrepreneurship. Our new Entrepreneur Incubator programme walks the road with individual helping them avoid these common mistakes.

Hi Fred, also read ‘How to get rich’ last month. Normally the title would have put me off, but a friend recommended it because of Felix Dennis’s more ‘poetic’ side.

I can’t shake the feeling that Mr Dennis is teazing all the guys out there so desperate to get rich. He doesn’t say it in so many words, but the message i get between the lines is: ‘You are a human being with all this potential. You can do anything with your life. And all you want to do is get rich?’

I’m a firm believer in money always being the secondary (or even lower) motivator in any new business. Customers tend to run a mile when they can see only dollar signs in your eyes.
