Search for The Great South African Cup of Coffee: C’est La Vie

While visiting Lisa’s Little Wine Shop in Kalk Bay, a true hidden gem, I was pointed swiftly to C’est La Vie, the coffee shop / French bakery round the back.
I followed the aroma of freshly roasted bean coming from the Mediterranean-style balcony outside Lisa’s shop. As you enter, you get a sensory double-whammy. In one swoop, you’re felled by the sight and scent of glazed bread on racks on the one side, and the head-rush-inducing smell of coffee brewing.
I ordered two cups, one for me, and one for Lisa. I watched in awe as the barista on duty deftly whipped up our brew and adorned it with a carefully hewn artwork in the foam. Nice touch guy.
This kind of artistic bonus is often used to conceal sub-standard product, but I’m happy to report a heady, strong flavour and perfectly balanced creaminess.
Nice work, and what a lovely place. Once you’ve finished your cuppa, you can take your warm bread-flute for a leisurely stroll along Kalk Bay’s main drag, buy a few trinkets, and then, er, go back for another coffee.
Location: 48 Main Rd, Kalk Bay, Cape Peninsula, Cape Town – round the back of the art gallery and Lisa’s Little Wine Shop.
Internet: Not sure, but who wants to talk shop in such a beautiful spot?
Plugpoints: Dunno; you’ll get distracted by the coffee and bread anyway.
Meeting potential out of ten: 1 or 10, depends on the mood you’re in. It’s French, after all.
Coffee rating out of ten: 9

I’m a coffee nut, and the best coffee I’ve ever had is home brewed espresso. The beans are the all important ingredient here, only use freshly roasted beans, which have been stored in your freezer. Best places to get beans in CT are Quaffee.co.za for huge variety and weekly roasting or stop by at Komati foods in Obs who do there own blend. Enjoy!

Beleza in Tamboerskloof serves a fantastic coffee. My personal favourite is a flat white. The coffee is smooth and delicious.
