Cool business idea: Start a bank – and employ street kids to run it

Ok – so the idea here is to rethink everything you already believe about the little street urchins that are such hardened criminals they’ll stick a knife into you for their next hit of glue.
In India a bank called the Children’s Development bank is run and staffed by street children and caters exclusively for kids. The bank issues savings and loan facilities to children in an attempt to empower them and spark that entrepreneurial streak.
Yeah – we know it sounds a little whack, but maybe with a bit of responsibility and some trust in these children they may begin to have more to live for than a R20 tik pipe.
Now there’s a business idea crying out to be started in South Africa – who’s up for it?

Not a bad idea at all. If only banking regulations weren’t so indecently restrictive… needs some lawyer input to find out the best way to structure something like this in our regulatory environment. Then, as you point out… who knows what they could achieve.
