It’s no secret that pet owners feel nothing to shell out loads of crisp notes to keep their pooches happy.
It makes sense then that there is a demand for a specialist dog toy outlet for rockstar Rover.
As you’d expect, there are a couple of foreign company’s slobbering all over this idea. We liked Dog Toys in Holland – who used this clever guerrilla campaign to advertise themselves. The balls say “Buy something different for a change.” Tons of these balls were placed in parks frequented by dogs and their owners.
Sure pet stores are nothing new, but the trend now is niche specialisation and nobody in South Africa has as yet claimed that lucrative selfspace.
Then again – if the commitment of having a full-time pet is too much for you, another awesome, yet possibly controvertial, idea is a temporary pet ownership service.
Recently launched in Los Angeles and San Diego, Flexpetz does just that. The company offers consumers the option of having a dog for just a few hours or days a week. Which is a good solution for people who’d love to have a dog, but are too busy, travel frequently, or live in buildings that don’t allow dog ownership.
Not a bad idea if they could do that with children too.
