The art of the blog

Mark Forrester is a master Blogger. He writes basically nothing of substance for weeks at a time – rambles about his holiday in SA, his mom’s dagga plants – and I start to wonder how he ever got popular in the first place.
Then he pulls out a post like this:
It’s genius. Give something away for free. Appeal to the techies and designers (ie other bloggers). Add an emotional/war twist. He’ll get 10,000 links and hundreds of new readers.
Mark is like the kid in school who cracked the system and seemed to only work for 5 minutes a day, and yet got straight A’s and five gold stars. Brilliant.
Andrew Smith is the pedantic systems guy behind Live Alchemy, a SA e-commerce company. Andrew writes for Ideate in an attempt to make the world a more efficient place. View more articles by Andrew Smith.

Hahaha. Thanks for the kind words Andrew. Just to set the record straight I definitely wasn’t the kid who cracked the system and got straight A’s! Art was about the only thing I got an A for.
My blog is simply my creative outlet. Its changed a lot over the years. I used to feel obligated to post something every day and by doing that I think I restricted my creative juices. When I stopped posting regurgitated articles to please users and started posting articles that interested me my blog traffic started to do better. Whether it stays that way I don’t know…
Love your work Ideate, I always come here for my daily fix.
Tripeak: I hire Santa’s little elves in their off season.
