For those of you who’ve caught the Facebook bug now taking South Africa by storm, here is an interesting post by Marc Andreessen about Facebooks potential and opportunities for entrepreneurs.
He writes: ‘In this post, I provide an overview and analysis of the Facebook Plaform and what we have learned about it in the three weeks since it launched. To start, my personal opinion is that the new Facebook Platform is a dramatic leap forward for the Internet industry.’
Read the article here. It’s fairly long, so here are the ‘Ideate bits’:
- Potential programmers / developers / entrepreneurs can create killer applications to add to Facebook.
- They have unbridled freedom to do so.
- Facebook is an extremely viral platform for your application to grow.
- Facebook is allowing financial freedom to make money out of it without claiming a share.
- If successful, Andreesen talks about the potential dangers your success will face.
He talks about how Facebook is changing perceptions and the way developers can add features and content to Facebook’s platform. Andreessen is a good authority on the threats and opportunities of creating applications that run on specific platforms. Andreessen was a founder of Netscape, a successful application before it got monstered by Microsoft and IE.

(I also wrote about it on Ideate.co.za) [...]
