Shane and I popped in here for a meeting on Thursday. It’s a conveniently positioned cafe / restaurant / alternative clothing outlet deep in Cape suburbia. It’s 10 mins from everywhere (you’ll find it just over Wynberg Hill, left off the M3 towards Muizenberg) and its convivial atmosphere lends itself to an end-of-the-week wind-down.
The perfect setting for a cup of the finest.
I warned the manager, Mish, that we were going to rate her coffee on a famous blog, and she replied ‘Good. I won’t tell the staff and we’ll see what happens.’ Mish was pretty confident that her product was above average.
Turns out she was right. Two cappuccinos arrived promptly, without fuss or muster, and Shane and I set about reverse engineering their dark brew.
The strong flavour, Portuguese-blend, sits assertively on your palate. The foam is delicate and well-balanced. All-in-all, the rich aroma and careful presentation makes this a pleasing caffeine oasis in the instant-coffee-stained southern suburbs of Cape Town. The hemp biscotti is an additional treat; and leads to some involved conversation if Mish has time for you.
In closing, Parks Café is a great spot to take a breather.
You can eat lunch with colleagues, or finish a mid-afternoon beverage with a browse of the adjoining Hemporium, a hemp-fashion outlet run by Parks’ shareholders. The relaxed environment is consolidated by the legacy of the 100 year old homestead setting, part of Duncan ‘Charlie’ Parker’s Zonnestraal farm in Constantia. Parks is definitely worth a visit.
