Search for the Great South African Cup of Coffee: News Cafe

Last week I had 45 mins to burn in town, so I settled at the News Café next to Artscape. When the cappuccino arrived, I almost predestined it to be poor. This is a franchise after all. We’re talking somewhere between Spur and Starbucks – so the coffee is part of a mass-market system. Upon inspection, it didn’t look too appealing. The foam is all lopsided, and has the texture of light, watery soap bubbles. Not great. Upon downing my cup (I was in a rush) I had one word on my mind: Wimpy. The coffee is identical to its franchise cousin. In other words, not bad – but not wonderful.
Location: City Centre, Cape Town
Internet: 100% iBurst – didn’t ask about wireless.
Plugpoints: yes, they were very accommodating.
Cappuccino rice: R10,50
Meeting potential out of ten: 6 – nice spot, comfy and spacious. Central.
Coffee rating out of ten: 4 (Wimpy fans would beg to differ)

Try the cappuccino at Vida e Cafe – best in town (in my opinion)! And I love the vibe! Probably not the best place to have a meeting because you will be competing with the lively staff members for centre stage. But, fun nonetheless. The Lindt chocolate that accompanies your coffee is also a plus!
