World Wide Creative is looking for a programmer. Andrew is going to be focusing solely on the Live Alchemy projects, and hence we need someone to replace his technical and creative genius in our team. Please send CV’s to Fred: careers[at]worldwidecreative.co.za.
Hours:
9.00 to 5.15pm, Monday to Friday.
The schedule is ‘deadline-driven’ i.e. on occasions when deadlines are tight, work may be required outside these hours.
The job requires four days a week on the tasks outlined in this job description. On the fifth day each member of staff works on their own web-based project called an ‘Accelerator Project’*.
Personal requirements:
Ability to work in a team.
Ability to run/be responsible for your own department.
Ability to communicate technical problems to non technical people
Patience of a saint to put up with marketing people.
Have at least one Creedence Clearwater Revival song in your collection**.

Technical Knowledge/Experience:
PHP
MySQL
XHTML
CSS
Javascript
Either Linux or BSD Experience in both day-to-day operations capacity and system administration capacity.
Apache 1.3.x & 2.x
Knowledge of backup/restore procedures
Payment and perks:
Employment will be subject to an initial 4 month trial period whereby performance will be appraised and reviewed.
Total remuneration package:
R15,000 per month.
Accountability:
The programmer will report directly to the studio manager.
Primary Duties:
Converting basic HTML layouts to dynamic database-driven websites using the World Wide Creative ‘Webcan’ architecture***.
Programming new dynamic and custom functionalities for websites, and linking these functionalities to our Webcan website architecture.
Editing and improving the Webcan architecture.
Build and manage a system to keep track of all WWC clients, sites, domains, e-mails and maintenance.
Communicating with Hetzner, the World Wide Creative outsourced hosting provider, with regards to the World Wide Creative shared / managed server. Ensuring Server and Client Websites are running effectively at all times.
Secondary Duties:
To provide support to our clients / sales team for technical issues such as email failure or glitches in the Webcan system.
To provide online support through the live chat facility on our website.
To entertain the rest of the team with ‘programming humour’.
To submit at least one unbelievably ambitious ‘World Domination’ idea to the team every quarter.
Overall goals:
To grow the Webcan architecture into a world class website system that is easy-to-use and functional. Webcan will become a vital cog in the quest towards ‘profitable websites’.
To grow individual technical/programming strengths.
To grow as a team member and to contribute in the growth of fellow team members.
To gain and offer knowledge through working in a dynamic and ambitions working environment.
* ‘Accelerator Project’ means a web-based business and aimed at using the tools available to us in the World Wide Creative team. It is run in partnership with WWC and full company resources will be available for you to use: Brand Development, Website Development and Web Marketing.
** Johnny Cash is also acceptable.
*** ‘Webcan’ is the name given to the database-driven content managed system developed by Blue Box and World Wide Creative.
