Vincent Flanders (not related to Ned) originally wrote an article entitled “The Biggest Web Design Mistakes of 2004.” Two years later, he’s done a slight refresh and at the end of the day, these still hold true, despite the Web 2.0 hype.

Do yourself a favour and check it out, with examples – Biggest Mistakes in Web Design 1995-2015

For now, here’s a winner:

Too much material on one page.

Yes, it’s called a web page, but that doesn’t mean you have to cram all your material on one page.

It’s very easy to keep adding material to your home page until it gets out of control.

With so much content vying for attention it’s difficult for the eyes to to find the focal point. People get confused and they leave. A long web page means you have failed to organize your site properly — probably a combination of not planning your site and poor navigation.

Oh. Yes, this page is too long. You’re learning good web design by looking at bad web design.
