South Africa’s second national operator, Neotel launched on the 1st September.
Neotel aims to reduce the cost of doing business in South Africa, and to extend communications to the second economy. We are focused and flexible, intent on understanding your requirements and delivering services suited to your specific needs. Gradually, our service portfolio will grow to include basic voice, data, internet, virtual private networks, network management and hosting services, although we currently offer international voice and data transit services for other telecoms providers. We intend to become the preferred provider of leading-edge telecoms services in South Africa.

The branding looks like an IT company that is offering mediocre hosting services.

Don’t people just want cheaper phone calls and internet connection. If you’re in a position in SA to offer telephone services as sa’s “second national operator”. then just say “cheaper calls than Telcom”, with better service. Half the country will move over to you in the blink of an eye.

Perky, you have a point here. I think a great example of this is Virgin’s approach to gaining a market share here in SA – AKA: The Virgin Difference:
Virgin Mobile:
“Other companies lock you in with long-term contracts and screw you with hidden costs. And paying more because you’re not prepared to sign any service contract to tie you and your children’s children in – seriously sucks! Thank heavens for Virgin Mobile.”
Virgin Money:
“We think you deserve better! Up until Virgin Money arrived you have been ripped off with obscene interest rates, bank charges, expensive reward schemes and poor service. Here’s how our deal is different.”
