Seth Godin has just written a list on how to get traffic to your blog. Everyone here is pretty interested in this topic, mainly because we have around 15 readers on this blog and would love to have more, but also because some of our clients are starting blogs. So, in the spirit of putting on a bit of weight, here is our own, abridged, list.
- Write about one thing – be focused, and have a point (no posts about your boyfriend, your cat, the sunrise etc. unless, of course, the blog is about boyfriends, cats and sunrises.)
- Use lists.
- Be topical… write posts that need to be read right now.
- Learn enough to become the expert in your field.
- Break news.
- Share your expertise generously so people recognize it and depend on you.
- Don’t interrupt your writing with a lot of links.
- Edit yourself. Ruthlessly.
- Don’t promote yourself and your business or your books or your projects at the expense of the reader’s attention.
- Be patient.
