Two Faux Pas

Yesterday, I experienced two serious stuff ups in two places of business.

Faux Pas # 1

The following took place during a business breakfast with Andrew and Fred. Waiter: What can I get you sir? Fred: Please could you get us some more toast and coffee with…. Beep Beep…Beep BEEP!! (Waiter’s cell phone beeps…..waiter ignores patrons and attends to his phone. Waiter responds to message. Waiter puts phone back in pocket.) Waiter: What can I get you? I must admit, this guys response really took us by surprise! He was totally cool with receiving a message while a customer was giving him an order. No apology. Nothing!

Faux Pas # 2

One of our UK clients is over in SA and we were wanting to send him home with some remarkable SA wine. I headed over to one of the national wine and beverage stores, knowing that they had a fairly good selection, at reasonable prices. I know a good wine when I taste it, but am definitely not a connoisseur, so I needed help! I signaled to the front and was soon joined by a friendly gentleman. I gave him a brief description of what I was looking for and he set off to find it. It didn’t take long for me to realise that this guy knew absolutely nothing about wine! I asked him if there was anyone in the store who could help me and he shook his head. Apparently the only one who knew anything was the manager and he was out! That’s a fat lot of good. The funny thing is – I gave up and settled for a wooden box gift pack which came in at half the amount I was prepared to pay. If someone knew what was going on, they could have sold me some excellent wine at my full budget. Their loss.

Update: Seems like we are not the only one’s experiencing problems with restaurants in Cape Town! Unfortunately Glenda & Nicky from TomorrowToday.biz were worse off. Eish!

Let me tell you about an awesome, really stunning, absolutely mind blowing and all round good experience wine shop where you would have left with ALL your money out of your pocket but a BIG smile on your face…
Tell me just one thing…what were you thinking of shopping elsewhere??
